Where Everybody Knows Your Name

Remember that old theme song from Cheers? “Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name…” There’s just something comforting about being surrounded by people who really know you. That sense of familiarity makes a house feel like home, and in senior living communities, it’s a big part of why residents thrive.

At Edgewood, our residents get to know the folks who walk through their doors to help each day. From caregivers to medical providers, our goal is to create strong relationships and continuity of care. However, let’s be honest—staff turnover in healthcare, especially in nursing, is a significant challenge. Thankfully, combining senior living with on-site healthcare is helping to improve that!

Questions About Familiar, Comfortable Care?

Reducing Staff Turnover Through On-Site Healthcare in Senior Living

When we lose a staff member, especially a nurse who has been with our community for decades, we must work harder to ensure the quality and consistency of our care. To tackle nursing turnover specifically, Edgewood has partnered with Legacy Medical.

Legacy offers added healthcare support through a medical directorship program, on-site nurse practitioners, on-call nursing, and remote nursing services. These tools enhance resident care, improve communication, and support nurses in advocating for individual needs. This extra layer of care also plays a key role in enhancing nurse retention.

What Have On-Site Providers Changed?

When nurses have a medical director readily available to lean on, they get answers fast. Fast answers mean faster care for residents—whether it’s treatment recommendations, follow-up visits, or early intervention. It’s a win for everyone.

When residents receive timely, proactive healthcare, it eases the day-to-day demands on nurses and allows them to focus on delivering compassionate, personalized care. This support helps prevent burnout and fosters a healthier, more positive environment.

What Is Proactive Care?

Let’s break it down with a real-life example.

We’ll use a common example from a resident we’ll call “Annabella.” She has a history of urinary tract infections (UTIs).  Common symptoms of UTIs may be:

If staff notice even subtle changes in her behavior or health, they’re trained to take action. With on-site nurse practitioners (NPs) available, Annabella can be evaluated quickly, often before her symptoms escalate.

Another amazingly proactive healthcare feature we use in nearly half of our communities is CarePredict. This wearable technology actually tracks movement, such as trips back and forth to the restroom (increases or decreases), and alerts staff to inquire if a resident is showing those subtle shifts in behavior!

How Do We Deliver Proactive Senior Care & Healthcare?

In Annabella’s case, staff observation, timely reporting, and on-site healthcare access helped save her from a potential health complication. Treatment gets delayed if a medical provider isn’t readily available or if returning a nurse’s call takes too long. For conditions like UTIs, those delays can lead to bigger problems (and potentially a trip to the ER).

But when providers are right down the hall? Annabella gets her antibiotics faster, starts hydrating, and receives extra check-ins. She recovers sooner, skips the hospital, and gets back to enjoying her life.

Edgewood Brings Healthcare to You

Let’s face it: even the fanciest amenities can’t make up for not feeling well. At Edgewood, wellness comes first, because if you don’t feel good, you won’t enjoy the courtyard BBQ or lakeside picnic— and chances are, if you’re sick, your family won’t enjoy their plans all that much, either.

That’s why we’ve teamed up with Legacy Medical’s nurses to bring healthcare services on-site to our assisted living residents. With after-hours on-call nurses, coordinated care, and less need for off-site appointments, residents stay healthier, nurses feel more supported, and families can breathe easier.

Find Assisted Living Near You.

We Got This (So You Don’t Have To)

When residents choose our on-site healthcare services, families can step back into the role they love most: being a family. Daughters and sons can stop being taxi drivers, schedulers, and note takers—and enjoy visits with their loved ones.

We’d love to show you how on-site healthcare in assisted living can improve your quality of life. Email us at info@edgewoodhealthcare.com.

Because when healthcare and home come together, everybody wins.
